Bananas Maintain Top Export Spot

BANANAS continue to be CostaRica’s biggest export, totaling $500 millionin 2004, the Ministry of Agricultureand Cattle said Saturday in a statement.Exports of pineapple, which haveshown high growth in recent years andreached $238 million in 2004, came insecond, with coffee, the price of whichhas increased in recent weeks, in thirdplace with $214 million. Plants and flowersare the fourth-largest export at $162million for 2004.Total agriculture exports last yearreached $2.1 billion, representing nearly athird of Costa Rica’s total foreign sales.
