Jeff Bezos touched down in Costa Rica the other day. The Amazon founder arrived with his wife Lauren Sánchez aboard a private jet at Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste. The General Directorate of Migration confirmed the couple entered our country that day.
Videos like the one below from Costa Rica Viajes y Cultura and photos from the arrival show Bezos stepping off the plane in a beige shirt, jeans and white sneakers while carrying a leather briefcase. Sánchez, a journalist, television host, pilot and businesswoman, walked with him. The pair came for a few days of rest on the northern Pacific coast.
Bezos ranks among the world’s wealthiest people. He founded Amazon in 1994 after working at several technology companies. The business started as an online bookstore and expanded into a global retail and technology giant. He also owns the aerospace company Ble Origin. He graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a degree in computer science and electrical engineering.
Specialized websites tracked his superyacht Koru in Costa Rican waters for at least a week before the arrival. The “yacht”, valued at $500 million, requires about $30 million a year in maintenance. Tracking data placed it near the Gulf of Papagayo.
Bezos and Sánchez married in June 2025. His visit adds to the list of prominent international figures who spend time here in Costa Rica. Our country often draws high-profile travelers who seek its Pacific coast and other attractions. No details have emerged about the exact length of the stay or any planned activities.
