Businesses Seek to Open Operations in Costa Rica

More than 350 businesses from 18 countries participated this week in the Eighth Commercial Buyers Mission, according to a statement from the Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER).

Business owners from Central America, the Caribbean,Mexico, the United States, Canada and the European Union attended the fair to make contacts with Costa Rican exporters and look into purchasing Costa Rican products, the statement said.

Costa Rican businesses exhibited about 950 products, or 30% of the country s total export selection.

The goal was to promote the insertion and commercial diversification of Costa Rican products in international markets and promote the country on a global scale, PROCOMER Director Martín Zúñiga said.

During the first eight months of this year, Costa Rican exports generated $5.4 billion, an 18% increase over last year.

The United States continues to be the main market for Costa Rican exports, receiving 45% of the country s exports, or $2.2 billion, between January and August of this year.
