National Museum Launches Online Plant Index

The National Herbarium, the department of the NationalMuseum that catalogues the country’s plant life, has launched a Web site with information on 200,000 plant species.

The Web site, which is in Spanish, allows visitors to search for information on species by a variety of criteria, including popular name, scientific name or the plant species family, among other options.

The National Herbarium has catalogued 179,388 species of flowering plants, 32.051 species of ferns, 5.617 species of fungi, 3,600 species of moss and 1,780 species of algae, according to the daily La Nación.
