New Energy Advocate Draws Expatriate Crowd

New energy advocate Brian O’Leary made his second round of seminars in Costa Rica in as many years this week.

O’Leary, president and co-founder of the New Energy Movement, a movement for discussion and research of energy sources he described as “heretofore unrecognized by modern science,” delivered a presentation at Big Mike’s Place in the western suburb of Escazú Tuesday night, and another at Universidad La Salle in downtown San José Wednesday evening.

The scientist, a U.S. citizen whose biography boasts he is a former NASA scientist and has taught physics at Princeton and astronomy at Cornell (alongside Carl Sagan), said his theme Tuesday night had to do with “dispelling fear,” such as the religious doomsday myths generated by that day’s date 6/6/06.

O’Leary, who mentioned he is 66 years old and came into the country on flight number 660, presented a slide show to a crowd of approximately 25 expatriates gathered at Big Mike’s, of quotes from U.S. ex-Presidents and other political figures, much like he did during his previous presentation in Costa Rica (TT, Jan. 30, 2004).

He also showed slides of a retreat center he is finishing in his new home near the village of Vilcabamba, in Ecuador, where he expects to have extraterrestrial encounters.

“We need all the help we can get,” he said Tuesday, referring to the world’s energy preferences so far.
