Auhorities Launch New Drug Hotline

By dialing 176, anyone in Costa Rica can now quickly and easily denounce drug dealing and trafficking.

Public Security Minister Fernando Berrocal announced the new number June 23, saying it will give citizens an easy-to remember way to anonymously report suspicious activity.

The line is open 24 hours a day and free of charge, according to a statement from the Public Security Ministry.

This number replaces the former hotline number, 800-DROGA-NO (800-376-4266); however, the old number will remain active while people learn about the new number.

Agents with the Ministry’s Drug Control Police have arrested more than 120 people this year on charges of drug trafficking, according to the police statement.
