Police Arrest Suspected Muggers

Based on complaints from victims and the descriptions given of the attackers, police arrested three men suspected of regularly robbing pedestrians in San Pedro and Sabanilla, two neighborhoods near the University of Costa Rica, east of San José.

The three men, identified by the last names of Sonollo, Navarette and Castro, are suspected of traveling in a red Hyundai Accent without license plates and robbing pedestrians at gunpoint, a police statement said. The suspects, arrested Feb. 22, were later identified by a mugging victim.

Police seized the car and 22-caliber and .38-caliber firearms they said were not licensed.
