Arias Inaugurates Chinese Embassy

In a simple ceremony, President Oscar Arias last Thursday inaugurated the new Costa Rican Embassy in Beijing.

A group of Costa Rican business owners accompanying the President on his tour of China last week attended the act, according to a statement from Casa Presidencial.

Arias said he felt “deeply proud to be the first President of my country to have the privilege of sharing a small piece of our dear Costa Rica with China and the entire Asian continent.”

“This embassy will be a symbol between China and Costa Rica, a signal of the friendship that unites us and a home for the ideals we share. This house is small, like Costa Rica, but our country is also in charge of dreams and promises,” Arias said.

Costa Rican Ambassador to China Antonio Burgués is heading the new embassy.

Arias also last week inaugurated the new Beijing office of the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER), which will serve as a link between Costa Rican exporters and buyers in the Chinese market, the statement said.
