New Bridge Under Construction Over Heredia’s Río Pirro

The National Roadway Council (CONAVI) began construction this week on a new bridge above the Río Pirro, on the south side of the National University campus in Heredia, north of San José.

In April, a large piece of the existing bridge collapsed due to heavy rains, reducing traffic over the river to two lanes. According to CONAVI, ₡255 million ($450,000) will be invested in the repair and reconstruction of the new four lane bridge and pedestrian walkways.

The bridge is expected to be competed within 125 days. During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane on each side of the bridge.
