Sixth Costa Rican qualifies for 2012 Olympic Games

With the Olympic Games still several months away, six Costa Rican athletes have punched their ticket to London for the 2012 Olympic Games, which begin on July 27.

Last weekend in Argentina, triathlete Leonardo Chacón earned the points he needed to become the last entry in the world to qualify for this year’s triathlon. He becomes the sixth Tico to qualify for London, a new record.

The delegation includes Gabriela Traña and Cesar Lizano for marathon, Nery Brenes for the 400 meter race, Heiner Oviedo in Taekwondo and Andrey Amador in men’s road cycling.

This group could grow if other athletes like Sharolyn Scott (400-meter hurdle race), Allan Segura (20-kilometer race walk), Manuel Campos (weightlifting), Mario Montoya (swimming), and the Costa Rican women’s national soccer team.
