The Points Guy has compiled a list of bargain airfares between the East Coast of the United States to San Jose Costa Rica (SJO) that are available from September – November 2022. Round-trip flights start as low as $221 on American Airlines.
Sample tickets and prices:
- New York from $254 to San Jose
- Philadelphia from $274 to San Jose
- Baltimore from $284to San Jose
- Miami from $221 to San Jose
Keep in mind that some of these cheap fares may not be direct flights and could include stops in cities like Miami. Other airports with lower-than-normal fares may also be available.

Nine airlines offer flights between the United States to either San Jose (SJO) or Liberia (LIR) Costa Rica: Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Alaska, American Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit, Sun Country, Frontier and Southwest.
Tourists must meet Costa Rica’s general visa requirements; visitors must have a valid passport and proof of intent to exit the country (an outbound ticket) within 90 days.
