U.S. tourist dies after falling from horse

Caiklen Meredith Debroca, 23, died Wednesday after falling off a rented horse at Brasilito Beach in the northwestern province of Guanacaste.

According to police reports, Debroca lost control of the horse and fell, hitting her head on a gravel road.

Sandra Germán, a physician at a local Brasilito clinic, said she examined Debroca, who was unconscious, at the beach, and ordered her transported to a local clinic where she suffered cardiac arrest 10 minutes later.

José Bustos, a local resident who observed the incident, said Debroca was accompanied by five riders and two guides.
