Happy New Year

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, begins Sunday evening, Sept. 16. Costa Ricans and people around the world will gather in synagogues to hear the ceremonial sounding of the shofar, the ram’s horn that is one of the holiday’s most recognizable symbols.

Rosh Hashanah ushers in a 10-day period of reflection known as the Days of Awe. It culminates in Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, beginning the evening of Sept. 25.

The Tico Times extends its wishes for a happy, peaceful year 5773.
