Expomóvil Auto Fair kicks off Thursday

Expomóvil 2012, the annual car and vehicle extravaganza, will start March 1 at the Centro de Eventos Pedregal in San Antonio de Belén, Heredia.

Carlos Aguilar, Expmóvil coordinator and executive director of the Vehicle and Machinery Importers Association, said at least 34 auto distributors will attend the 10-day event, offering special prices, options packages and accessory upgrades on vehicles for Expomóvil attendees.

Aguilar added that numerous banks will also be on hand at Expomóvil with special offers on financing packages including low-interest rates and long-term loans.

“Conditions are good right now for buying a car,” Aguilar said. “Even though globally there is talk of recession, the Costa Rican market is very particular. It is a good moment now because the banks have a policy of giving credit so it is easy for people to obtain financing.”

Organizers expect to see more than the 50,000 attendees who showed up for last year’s Expomóvil, which was held at the San Antonio de Belén fairground, Aguilar said.

Expomóvil runs through March 11. Hours are Mon.-Thurs. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fri. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sat. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sun. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Entry is ₡2,000 ($4) and kids under 12 enter free. Parking is available for ₡2,000.
