Eight killed with guns, knives in Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA – Eight people, including four children, were shot or stabbed to death Tuesday in Honduras, according to police.

The two men, two women and four children were attacked by four men who arrived in a vehicle, said police spokesman Hector Ivan Mejia, adding that police had yet to determine a motive for the attack.

The incident took place in an agricultural area along the coast, some 600 kilometers (380 miles) north of the capital.

Honduras, with a population of some eight million, has one of the highest homicide rates in the world, and the violence has soared in recent years as drug cartels have battled over lucrative international trade routes.
