Help Support ‘Young Life’ 5K Fun Run

Dear Nica Times:

On April 10 at 7 a.m. Granada’s Central Park will be the starting point for the second annual “youth run” for Vida Joven, or Young Life.

Prizes will be awarded for the best runners in various categories, including a mini 2.5-K race for the little guys.

You may register the morning of the race, or pre-register at Colegio San Antonio on the Parque.

This is the main fund-raising event for Granada’s Club Vida Joven, which is helping kids in the Santa Rosa barrio at the foot of Santa Lucia.

Through the Club, we’ve seen scores of youth find an alternative to gangs and drugs, and many are committed to helping open a new club this year in a neighborhood near the cemetery. Last year we had almost 200 runners (ages 8 to 50) participate in the fun run, and we raised enough money to cover half of the annual operating expenses and scholarships to CampEvents in Matagalpa.

We are hoping that with money raised in this year’s effort, we can launch the second club.

Vida Joven volunteers will be out seeking sponsors for this year’s runners, so please consider underwriting a runner or two. Or come on out and join us on race day, and for the pre-race rally in the Parque Central April 9 at 5 p.m.
