New U.S. Ambassador Takes Oath in D.C.

Businessman and former Maine Republican gubernatorial candidate Peter Cianchette was sworn in Thursday as U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica.

“It is an honor for me to serve my country in Costa Rica, a model of democracy and peace in the region.” Cianchette said after a ceremony at the State Department in Washington, D.C. “I look forward to expanding the strong relations between our two nations.”

Cianchette served as Bush’s campaign chairman in Maine in 2004.
