Costa Rica Congratulates New Guatemalan President

The Costa Rican government last week congratulated newly elected Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom in a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

Costa Rica “salutes the candidates who participated in the first and second rounds of the presidential election for contributing to the consolidation of democracy in Guatemala,” the statement said.

The government believes Costa Rica and Guatemala will continue “deepening their traditional relationship of friendship and cooperation, as well as their work in favor of Central American integration,” it said.
