Foreign Minister Congratulates Colombia’s Uribe on Re-election

Foreign Minister Bruno Stagno on Monday congratulated Colombia’s President, Alvaro Uribe, who was re-elected Sunday.

“Costa Rica’s government congratulates Colombia’s government and people on Sunday’s presidential elections,” Stagno said in a statement. “Costa Rica sends its warmest congratulations to Alvaro Uribe for his victory in the elections and thanks the other candidates for contributing … to democracy in their country.”

Stagno also praised Colombian authorities who “created conditions that allowed them to carry out free and transparent elections in which the Colombian people could express themselves through suffrage,” adding that he is “convinced that Colombia and Costa Rican will continue to deepen their traditions of friendly relations and cooperation and their common fight in favor of peace” during Uribe’s second term.
