The recent eruptions of Poás Volcano prompted the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) to cancel its Earth Day celebration planned to take place tomorrow at Poás, according to spokeswoman Olga Durán.
Despite celebrating Earth Day every year since 1998, MINAE decided to cancel this year’s activities after the volcano erupted 16 times March 24 and the park was closed for a week (TT, April 7).
The private conservation organization Neotrópica is hosting an Earth Day event today, beginning at 9:30 a.m., which includes tree-planting in the DamasRiver basin, south of San José.
