Government Lowers Taxes On Clean-Technology Cars

IMPORT taxes on hybrid electric-gasoline cars will drop from 30% to 15% thanks to a government decree that should take effect soon, the daily Al Día reported.

The only hybrid currently imported to Costa Rica is the Toyota Prius, brought into the country by Purdy Motors. The reduction would lower the price of $36,000 by approximately $5,400.

In addition, electric cars and certain motorcycles would benefit from the reduction, according to the daily.

Not everyone received this news well, however. Some vehicle importers feel the reduction is discriminatory and only favors one or two brands, Al Día reported.
