ECI Telecom, an Israeli advancedtelecommunications company, announcedearlier this month in a statement that ithas signed an agreement with the CostaRican Electricity Institute (ICE) to provideICE with an advanced communicationsnetwork that will handle all voiceand data communications throughout thecountry.The project is worth $59 million; thecontract stipulates that ECI will provideall aspects of planning and installing thenetwork, including digging the trenchesand laying 1,000 kilometers of fiber-opticcables across rural and urban areas, thestatement said.The project is expected to begin inJanuary 2006 and would be completedover a 21-month period. The agreement isstill subject to the final approval of theCosta Rican Comptroller General.
