‘Caribe’ Filmmakers Talk About Awards

WITH five international awardsunder their belts, the actors, writers anddirector of Costa Rica’s homegrown film“Caribe” are looking at a competition inHavanna, Cuba, and possible distributionof the film in Spain where it garnered fourof its awards. If it plays Spanish theaters,that will be a first for a Costa Rican film.Director Esteban Ramírez joined coscreenplaywriter Ana Istarú and actorsVinicio Rojas and Thelma Darkings lastweek to express his gratitude to CostaRican movie-goers and his pride in thesuccess of the film.The movie has had unprecedented boxoffice success – 40,000 in its first fourweeks. Ramírez was honored with theBest Director award at the Latin AmericanFilm Festival in Trieste, Italy, and the filmwon four awards at the Huelva Festival inSpain, including the People’s ChoiceAward.
