Exporters fair closes with better figures than previous edition

After 24 hours of negotiations, the XIV Buyers Trade Mission (BTM 2012) closed with a projected $41 million in business, which would exceed the 2011 figure of $38 million, according to the Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER).

Best sellers this time around were pineapple, mango, tubers, palm, chayote, plants, flowers, snacks, sauces, tuna, jellies and clothing.

The United States bought the most Costa Rican products, followed by Spain and Canada, while, as a region, first place went to the European Union.

“We are very pleased with the results of this BTM, undoubtedly the big winner was Costa Rica,” said Alvaro Piedra, trade promotion manager of PROCOMER. “This is an event that seeks to connect the country’s name with high quality products. It was a great opportunity for local firms to diversify markets, increase exports or even export for the first time.”
