Jacó Happenings

September 7, 2013

Congratulations to all the beautiful participants of Miss Jacó 2013. Alexandra Chinchilla was not only crowned Queen of the Miss Jacó 2013 Competition, but she also won the Best Hair Award and will go on to represent Jacó at the Queen Costa Rica Intercontinental 2013. Kristel Rojas was runner up, Vanessa Lagrange took First Princess, Fiorella Cordero took Second Princess, Angelica Arbizu won Miss Congeniality. Gloriana Salazar had The Most Beautiful Face and Lilibeth Gamboa received the Best Figure Award. Jennifer Barrantes, last year’s winner, will represent Jacó at the Miss World Beach 2013 in the Dominican Republic in December.

Thanks to the Municipality for providing the Aquatic Rescue Department with a new jet ski for Jacó to the lifeguards to help keep our beach safer! Also, the Municipality of Garabito is building three skate parks in the zone: one in the Central Park of Jacó Beach and one in Tarcoles and Quebrada Ganado. Jacó has also been chosen to receive one of the seven civic centers to be built throughout the country, with one being built in each province. Construction is set to start before the year end. This project is coordinated by the Government of the Republic, the Justice and Peace Ministry and the Municipality of Garabito.

Our local surfers are making waves: Congratulations to Jair Pérez, who left with 2nd place in the National Kidney Foundation 2013 in Cocoa Beach, Florida! And Carlos Muñoz taking 3rd Place in the Pantin Classic – a three-star WQS Event in Galicia, Spain.

This weekend Pura Vida Church and Christian Surfers Costa Rica presents the 4th Annual Tournament of Surfing Independence Esterillos Oeste 2013. The event supports the Community School, helping to improve infrastructure for the children so they can study better. There will be open categories including juniors and metropolitan women. For more info, email puravida506@gmail.com.

On Sunday, Sept. 8:  The Circuito Nacional de Taekwondo will take place at the ITF Gimnasio in Herradura. General entrance is $2.

For all the runners out there, don’t miss this year’s Eco-run 10K, which takes place Oct. 20 at 7 a.m., leaving from the Los Sueños Marriott. Inscriptions can be made at Health Store (Tienda de Salud Jacó) located next to Mega Super in downtown Jacó.

For those who don’t already know, you do not need an attorney to get a Personaria – you can ask for one in Banco Costa Rica or in the Correos in Jacó.
