It is that time of year, and the fishing scene has been heating up in the Central Pacific zone. The conclusion of the 5th Annual Los Sueños Marlin Invitational was held in mid-December with more than 11 teams and 37 anglers participating. A total of 240 billfish were released, which is many more than the year before.
First Place went to the Spanish Fly captained by Daniel Espinoza and crewed by Robert Hehenberger, Tobin Wiener, Bill Caldwell and Bob Burnside, second place went to HT Hook captained by Ronnie Riebe and crewed by Harry Shufflebarger, David Bertolozzi, Karen Finnieston and Alan Finnieston; third place went to Uno Mas captained by Tom Lynskey and crewed by Brooks Smith and Mark Willis.
Marc Stanley from the boat Pelese tied with Brooks Smith from the boat Uno Mas for the top angler awards. This weekend marks the first leg of the 10th Annual Signature Billfish Series out at Los Sueños. Next month, the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos is hosting its 2nd annual Quepos Billfish Cup tournament of the Costa Rica Big Game Series 2013. It is scheduled for Feb. 6-9.
