Jacó Happenings

December 14, 2012

Freddy “Salsiboy” Camacho is organizing a special surf tournament for the end of the year and he is hoping to get sponsors. The two-day surf event will be held Dec. 28-29 in Jacó Beach in front of Malecón Restaurant. Not only is he looking for sponsors, he is asking that people donate old boards, leashes, fins and surf equipment for prizes for participating kids. For more information, contact Freddy at 8881-7209.

The Jacó Puppet Factory is offering an activity program the week of Dec. 17-21 for children aged 7-10 every day Mon.-Fri. from 1-4 p.m. They offer puppet making, singing activities and exercises such as yoga poses and dance movements suitable for children.

They will also be making Christmas tree decorations. Teacher Kathleen Heinemanhas has more than ten years teaching experience while teacher Lalena Bennett has theater and dance experience and is a freelance artist. They are located at Casa Lalena in Playa Jacó off of the Pops road opposite of Soda Garabito. Cost is $20 per day with a minimum sign-up of two days required as many of the puppets take two days to make.

Call now to reserve a spot. The program will start again after Christmas on Wednesday, Dec. 26. Contact Lalena at 8861-7149 or 2643-6074, and Kathleen at 8580-8481.

If you are looking for a road trip: This weekend down in Palo Seco in Parrita in front of the Hotel La Isla, the Circuito Nacional will be starting the National Surf Circuit. Mark your calendars for JungleJam, which will be in town again here at Docelunas Jan. 17-20, 2013. The line up will be featuring Billy Kreutzman from the Grateful Dead, Otiel Burbridge from the Allman Brothers and Scott Murawski from Max Creek.

The Ryan Montbleu Band and ZAC Deputy will round out the bill for the U.S. bands, and there will be some other local bands filling in. Thursday is a fan club/VIP ticket holder show, Fri.-Sat. is 7 a.m.-1 p.m., and Sunday is family-friendly. Kids under 14 get in free and there will be face painting, puppet people and stuff for kids to do. Sunday runs from 3-11 p.m. and was a huge hit last year. For more information or to get tickets, contact DoceLunas at 2643-2211.

Lastly, the administrative offices of the Garabito Municipality will be closed from Dec. 21-Jan. 2.
