Costa Ballena Bulletin

September 5, 2012

Come on down to Costa Ballena and have a whale of a good time at the Festival of Whales and Dolphins, running the weekends of Sept. 7-9 and Sept. 14-16. Food, fun and more will go down at Marina Ballena National Park, just south of Uvita.

The event is being organized by three local groups: the Marina Ballena National Park Association of Tour Operators and Guides, the Development Association of Bahia and Uvita, and the Chamber of Tourism and Commerce of Costa Ballena de Osa (CACOBA) with the support of the Environment Ministry, the security forces, the Tourist Police, the Osa Municipality, the Coast Guard and the Red Cross.

This joint effort will result in a renewed and attractive festival. For more info, call Walter Brenes at 8846-6576.While you’re here, pick up your free copy of Ballena Tales Magazine to find out where to go, what to do, and how to get there.Tonight, Roca Verde Hotel and Restaurant (2787-0036) will host international blues musician Steve Arvey.

Steve has played with famous blues artists including Bo Diddley. He will be joined by long-time friend and collaborator, David Scott, who has been busy recording a new album with Steve, and doing a book tour to promote his recently published memoir, “London Boy.”

David has been the lead singer with the Blind Pig Blues band in Costa Rica for many years, was the leading DJ in town and was part of many great moments in British music history. Steve and David will be joined by Costa Ballena’s own fabulous Nancy Buchan on violin. The venue in Dominical is a spacious, open-air setting, ideal for listening to music, dancing as wild as you like and partaking in great food.
