The Country Day School had its end-of-the-year catamaran staff party followed by the graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 6, at 6 p.m. Several families said goodbyes and returned to the states after the school year. Good luck to all the graduates! May you have an adventurous and prosperous journey!
Surfside property and homeowners Gary Kaasa and Mike Hopkins are members of the Riester Conservation Foundation, based in Phoenix, Arizona. The Riester Foundation supports major international projects each year, including maintaining and protecting the Islita Reserve rain forest, and working with Marine Turtle Restoration Project to protect turtles on Corazolito Beach.
Riester’s efforts to fund an initial survey of Corozalito Beach proved a boon to the turtle world. Surprisingly, this 800-meter beach produces the highest density of turtle nests per square meter of any beach in Costa Rica, and possibly all of Central America. Last September, an arribada there brought more than 5,000 turtles to nest in just two days. You can read more about Riester at www.riesterfoundation.com
