Australian surfing icon Rob Machado stopped by the central Pacific coast with the Hurley Team earlier this month. Rob was in town helping the Hurley brand re-launch throughout stores here in Costa Rica, stopping first at Jacó Beach’s Mango Surf Shop to sign autographs, and later running a special surf clinic.
He also appeared at the Weekly Backyard Surf Series. In other surfing news: Congratulations to Carlos Muñoz, who just returned the Volcom VQS in Newport Beach, California, where he took fifth place. The fifth leg of the National Surfing Circuit will be held in Jacó, June 16-17.
Maria Del Mar has been influential in the implementation of PayPal in Costa Rica. Maria’s business, Del Mar Surf Camp, has been selected as the pilot program for PayPal, with Banco Nacional pioneering the way for businesses on the central Pacific coast and Costa Rican banks to begin accepting PayPal. Not only has Maria opened a third location in Santa Teresa, but she is offering a youth surf academy in Jacó Beach. For more information, visit www.delmarsurfcamp.com.
