School’s out! La Paz Community School had its last day of class Dec. 8, with lots of fun activities, presentations and parties. Many families took off starting the next day for vacations in the U.S. until next year.

Beach Community Church organized three outreach programs recently, offering fun games, snacks, Christmas music and stories, and a treasured gift for kids to take home. The events were held in Brasilito, Playa Negra and El Llanito.

Marie’s Restaurant is hosting an evening of Christmas carols spun by Josh Wilson on Dec. 24, starting at 6 p.m. Dinner specials and Marie’s famous eggnog will be offered. On Dec. 31, ring in the new year at Marie’s with dinner and drink specials and live music by the Fabulous Fabienne and the Swing Cats, starting at 9 p.m. For more information, call 2654-4136.

Mar y Sol has reopened, offering new menu items as well as Mar y Sol classics and evening specials, from 5 p.m. every day except Tuesdays. For reservations and free pickup for dinner guests, call 2654-4151. If you want something special for the holiday, Mar y Sol master chef Jean-Luc Taulere offers catering services. 

Jackson and Sheppard Texas Legends recently offered a hearty selection of blues, rock, country and folk music at Maxwell’s in Potrero. For information on specials and upcoming events at Maxwell’s, call Kelly at 2654-4319.

Dave Nelson’s band Local Legend will be playing Christmas Eve at Rico Sabor Italiano and New Year’s Eve at Mariner’s Inn in Flamingo. At the Happy Snapper, Donnie “Mr. Downchild” Walsh will be playing with the Leatherbacks for New Year’s.
