The June 18 Robert August Stand-up Paddle Event hosted by Pura Vida Ride at Las Catalinas, Playa Danta, was a great success. There were three categories: Elite (5 km), Sprint (3 km) and Family Fun. The Elite and Sprint races included a beach sprint start. Potrero resident Melissa Chellemi took first place in the Elite women’s category while her husband, Richard, took fourth place in the Elite men’s.

A barbecue at Haras del Mar Equestrian Center in Lomas del Mar was held June 25 to welcome Kylee Turner from Vancouver, Canada, who is the center’s new equestrian instructor. She brings more than 20 years of riding experience to the job and will offer lessons and camps in all disciplines. She has trained and competed in combined events, cross-country, dressage and show jumping. Free pony rides were offered for the kids at the barbecue, along with half-priced trail rides.
