Get ready for the Robert August Surf and Turf 2011, set for June 30 through July 3 at Hacienda Pinilla. That means the surf contest will take place at the beach over there, while the golf tournament will be played on the resort community’s golf course. Contestants come in from all over the world, but locals are welcome as well. The official opening party will be held at the Tamarindo Diria, as will the final awards ceremony. Anyone interested in competing in or sponsoring the event may contact Sandrine Tcherniack at 2653-8533, 2653-8365, 8881-2134 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Legendary surfer Robert August is very busy with surf activities down here this year, as he also has the Robert August Stand-up Paddle Challenge going on June 18 at Las Catalinas at lovely Playa Danta. The contest will be broken up into Elite (5 km), Sprint (3.2 km) and Family (1.6 km) categories. Register at www.puravidaride.com.
About Playa Danta, do yourself a favor and drive up there to check out the beautiful new Lola’s del Norte. This branch of the famous Avellanas restaurant just opened, and it’s a beautiful spot to enjoy lunch.
Hong Kong Chinese Food has new owners. The restaurant offers Chinese and Thai food at its location at the Rodamar commercial center across from Witch’s Rock Surf Camp. It’s open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day except Monday. Delivery service is available; call 2653-2571.
The Tamarindo development association has a general meeting set to take place tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the conference room at the Tamarindo Diria hotel.
