Notes from Puerto Viejo De Talamanca
Puerto Viejo has an awesome free clinic, the Clínica de Salud Reproductiva y Sexual, run by local gynecological nurses Julet Edwards and Siannie Palmer. The clinic was created in March 2009 for local women whose work schedules do not allow them to get to the EBAIS public community health clinic or the Hone Creek Clinic, and for women at high risk. Services include family planning, pap smears, checks for cervical and uterine cancer and sexually transmitted diseases, and pregnancy support.
It is important that women use the clinic, as this helps it stay open. Hours of service are Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 8 p.m. The clinic, which has no phone, is beside Cabinas Jacaranda in Puerto Viejo.
