Our condolences to Flamingo resident Trudy Estler and family from the U.S. city of Atlanta for the recent passing of Trudy’s husband, Roger. He was well-known to many here at the beach as one who loved to boat and fish. Trudy and Roger lived in Flamingo for many years, but returned to Atlanta due to Roger’s declining health. The funeral and memorial services were held in Atlanta.

The Leatherbacks will be performing live at Marie’s Restaurant tonight at 8 p.m. Dinner specials will include lasagna, spinach ravioli and chicken shish kebab for ₡3,000 ($6); drink specials of Imperial beer and screwdrivers will cost ₡1,000 ($2). There will be no cover charge.

La Paz Community School is holding an open gym night for kids in sixth grade and up every Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with chaperones to help coordinate the activities. For more information or to volunteer to help, call the school at 2654-4532.

A garage sale and car wash fundraiser will be held tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the community center in Huacas. Proceeds will benefit the Gold Coast Learning Center’s basketball program. Please donate items to Gold Coast Learning Center, next to Blue Ocean Academy on the road from Huacas to Tamarindo. You can arrange to have your items picked up by calling Cynthia at 8388-6056, or you can rent a table for ₡5,000 ($10) and bring your own stuff to sell. Hot dogs and refreshments will be available.
