The Costa Rican Tourism Board’s Ecological Blue Flag Program has awarded Playa Flamingo the Blue Flag for 2010. Congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard to maintain our status with the program.
The Art and Music Festival was held March 12 to 14 at La Plaza in Flamingo, featuring an art exhibit by many area artists and live music at Marie’s Restaurant. Everyone had a good time.
A garage sale was held March 13 at Perla’s in Surfside on behalf of the FlamingoBeach beautification program organized by Catarine and Fred Cushing. Lots of fun stuff was brought and sold. That same day, a photo exhibit entitled “Faces” took place at the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club. Surfside resident Zoraida Díaz displayed her black and-white photos detailing an unforgettable portrait of Guanacaste. Also, a group birthday celebration took place that Saturday at the Monkey Bar for the many area residents with March birthdays.
Surfside resident Jesse Baletti was 64 years old when he passed away Nov. 20 from heart failure. His friends will be honoring his memory March 27 with a memorial service at the Catalinas, where his ashes will be scattered. Popular and well liked, Jesse was captain of the Wavedancer sportfishing boat for many years in Flamingo and Quepos. He always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. Friends wishing to attend the service must confirm with Capt. Tom at 2654-5069 or at Maxwell’s Cafe in Surfside. Everyone will meet at Maxwell’s at 10:30 a.m. the day of the service.
