Flamingo/Potrero News

February 19, 2010

Donations are being sought for a garage sale to benefit Dawn’s Pet Care Clinic, which conducts spaying and neutering and other pet relief efforts. The sale is set for Feb. 20 and 21 at Perla’s in Surfside. The event aims to raise funds for all the medical and other supplies needed for the care of these local animals. For more information, contact Dawn at 2654-4775. And many thanks to Jean Capezza, who headed a Conchal fundraiser that netted $1,000 in support of the spay-neuter clinic.

The La PazCommunitySchool’s third annual Fundraising Fiesta, held Jan. 23 at Flamingo Marina Resort, raised more than $18,000 to support scholarships for local students and other programs at the school.

About 300 guests enjoyed live entertainment by Bob Benjamin and Carlos López, as well as a slideshow and pool activities for kids. Delicious food at the fiesta included ribs and coleslaw from Mar y Sol, freshly baked bread from Cecile’s and many tasty treats brought by La Paz families. The scholarship program ensures that children from all socioeconomic levels can attend La Paz; this year, 15 Costa Rican students are receiving scholarship funding.

The Flamingo Marina Resort also hosted a wine and art show Jan. 29 that was a big hit. Wines were imported through distributor Importadora Jorgran, and the art show featured the work of Soraya Goicoechea.

Organizers are considering making it a monthly event. For more information, call 2654-4141.

Maxwell’s Café and Bar presents “Friday Market and Live Music” every Friday from noon to 9:30 p.m. The menu is fun and interactive. For more information or reservations, call Kelly at 2654-4319.
