Flamingo/Potrero News

December 11, 2009

Dawn Scott of Playa Flamingo recently received the first-ever La Paz Ambassador Award for all she has done to help animals and educate the public about caring for their pets – and for sharing her passion with schoolchildren. All of La Paz school convened Nov. 30 in the yoga studio to celebrate Dawn’s accomplishments. The students shared some words about what it means to be a peace ambassador and about Dawn’s personal achievements within the community. Dawn then said a few words to the kids, and the program ended with the children singing a song called “La Paz.” Nov. 28 was the day selected for a sunset wedding celebration between Kristen Hughey of Potrero/Surfside and Juan Carlos Guillén. The wedding was held on the grounds at the Beach Club at Conchal, followed by an elegant dinner and dance, with close friends and family from Costa Rica and the United States. Live music was provided by Mario Martín.

A seasoned, talented singer and guitarist, Mario is well known in our area because of his performances in the beach communities. His soft, relaxing style of music is suitable for any type of event. He is now playing at the beach grill at the JW Marriott Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for lunch.

Mar y Sol Restaurant in Flamingo is now open seven days a week for dinner upstairs in the lounge or in the dining room. Angelina’s and the newly finished Yellow Fin Lounge are open six days a week (closed on Mondays).

Welcome back to Potrero/Surfside resident Dennis Schmeidge, who took a couple of weeks of vacation away from the war zone in Iraq, where he does electrical work at the military camps. His wife, Laurie, had her parents visiting from Canada during his short visit. We hope his time was well spent catching up with friends and family.

BeachCommunityChurch recently held a concert fundraiser featuring Punto 75, a Christian rock band from San José. People came from Tamarindo, Villarreal, Brasilito, Huacas, Surfside, Potrero and Flamingo to listen to the band. Proceeds from the concert went to the Christian Surfers ministry.

Christy and Mike Dennison from Austin, Texas, recently celebrated their honeymoon here in Playa Flamingo, after their wedding in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Congratulations and have a wonderful life!
