Flamingo/Potrero News
Michael Thyne and Mike Osbourne celebrated their joint birthdays July 28 at Brasilito’s Happy Snapper with a great party and good music. Suzye and Barry Lawson, who have many friends in Flamingo and Surfside/Potrero, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary the same day with a sunset cocktail party at their place of business and residence, the Villa Alegre in Playa Langosta. Cecilia Damia returned from a visit to the United States and celebrated her birthday July 31 with a small group of friends at Flamingo’s Mar y Sol restaurant.
Potrero resident Ralph Nicholson, former publisher-editor of The Beach Times, is spending time in his native Australia with family and friends. We also want to wish Zoraida Díaz and family well with their move to San José. Zoraida had a lovely farewell party to say good-bye to friends and to welcome the new residents of her house in Potrero.
Music lovers will be delighted to hear that Daphne Willis is back in town. She will be appearing with don Carlos at Marie’s Restaurant today from 7 to 10 p.m. As well as having an incredible voice, Daphne writes her own songs and plays guitar; check out a preview at www.imeem.com/daphnewillis.
Marie wants to make this a fun party night for everyone and will be offering various drink specials.
Marie’s is also hosting a jewelry show featuring the original work of local artisans, starting at noon on Aug. 14, just in time for Costa Rican Mother’s Day. That same evening, an art show will present new works by Susan Adams and other artists at Galería Pelícano. Jorge Granados will offer a wine tasting featuring some of his new Argentine wines. Susan and Jorge have donated an original oil painting and a six-bottle case of wine, respectively, to be raffled off, with the proceeds going to scholarships for Playa Potrero high school students.
Our sincerest condolences go to Flamingo residents Bruce and Barbara Bennett, who recently flew back to the United States because of the unexpected passing of Bruce’s father. Bruce’s parents were married for 63 years, a true testament to dedication and love.
Clínica BíblicaHospital has established a satellite medical clinic offering services such as medical consultations, clinical lab work and a pharmacy, across the parking lot from the Do It Center, where the old gourmet shop used to be. A grand opening health fair will take place tomorrow, starting at 9 a.m. The clinic’s regular hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
