A new custom silk flower store called Nature’s Art Florals and Accessories, or NAF, has opened at the Paseo del Mar commercial center in Huacas. Owners Lena and Bryan Campbell relocated from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Brasilito and opened a smaller version of the business they had in Vegas. The gorgeous shop features custom samples of their designs. Lena will do consultations at your home or by e-mail with photos. Canadians Dana, Kevin, Dani and Cayley Blosser came to Surfside/Potrero for a week to see all their old friends before heading to Dominical for an extended visit with other friends coming in from Canada. The Blossers lived in the Surfside Estates community for a year to experience living in a foreign country and to learn Spanish. It was great to see them again.
Pat Brady of Flamingo is recuperating from surgery at CIMAHospital in San José, and we wish her a quick recovery. Flamingo resident Jo Mega has moved to the United States to be closer to her son and grandson for the next year.
The Flamingo Association held its general assembly and selection of new officers for 2010. They are: Federico Marín, president; Ulrik Oldenburg, vice president; Pat Brady, treasurer; Jane Frank, secretary; and Donovan García, Diego Gutiérrez, Rene Blount, Don Hopkins and Larry Barrow, vocales. Under the direction of Jeff Haun, the CountryDay School in Brasilito held a successful open house to share with the community what life is like at the school.
The event featured stations representing the cultural differences and uniqueness of the many foreigners who attend the school. The kids showed what they are learning, the types of internal and extracurricular activities they are involved with, and the relationships the school has with other local organizations. Marie’s Restaurant is planning a special St. Patrick’s Day event March 17, featuring music by the Leatherbacks and special menu items such as corned beef and cabbage, Irish stew and “grasshopper” cheesecake. There will also be green beer and a special St. Patrick’s Day mojito.
